Responsibilities
The nationalistic views on the right to independence of the entire island of Ireland brought endless unrest of the Civil War. Both the IRA and NA supporters in the Republic of Ireland suffered thousands of military and civilian casualties, destruction, that caused the economic decline of the country. It became the responsibility of both sides to achieve a compromise and stop the civil war. By April 1923, the IRA forces realized that the war was unwinnable, and the IRA Chief of Staff Frank Aiken ordered the IRA fighters to dump arms.
